EDC Smile Time Brings Big Smiles to Mary Dean’s Primary School!

Dec 17, 2025 | News

On Tuesday 2nd December, the EDC Smile Team packed up their toothbrushes, props, and plenty of enthusiasm for a special visit to Mary Dean’s Church of England Primary School in Tamerton Foliot. Their mission? To teach 60 energetic 9–11-year-olds all about tooth decay, flossing, and how to keep their smiles healthy for life.

Leading the project was Dental Nurse Angel, who created a bright, engaging presentation and planned a series of hands-on activities to bring oral health to life. She was joined by Chloe S, one of our Dental Therapists, and our Reception Lead Sam C.

The session was packed with fun. The children enjoyed presentation packed with dental facts, videos, and event tackled quiz questions. The children practiced flossing using models made from marshmallows – an activity that was as educational as it was amusing! One of the biggest surprises of the day came during the “hidden sugars” game, where pupils had to guess how much sugar hides in their favourite drinks. Did you know that a small bottle of Tropicana Orange Juice contains 25.8 grams of sugar?

Angel and Chloe also prepared special goodie bags for every child, which went down an absolute treat. Many pupils said they couldn’t wait to tell their parents what they had learned.

We’re proud of the success of this outreach event and excited to keep expanding our community work. We warmly welcome invitations from other schools, care homes, community groups, or anyone who would benefit from free, friendly dental education – at any age.
